The Seed of Nature

I knew that nothing was going well, the earth was dry and there was little food. The farm that my family had taken care of for generations was dying.

We had spent a week barely surviving and knew we couldn't go on like this; I had to take care of my brothers and sisters. I remembered an old story my mother used to tell me when I was a kid about a mysterious and powerful seed that could be found during the season when flowers are born in the depths of the forest. Though I do not believe much in that story, it was our last hope.

I took a backpack with a blanket, part of the little food we had left, and my sword (even though I'm not a warrior I always carry it with me as a precaution because the forest is known for its dangers that not many dare to face.)

When I found myself in the forest I could not avoid a sense of fear. For some reason the trees seemed to be watching me, it even seemed as if they were talking to me, yet I kept walking and looking around me for any seed that stuck out over the others. Night came and I had been unsuccessful. Frustrated, I decided to lie down on the floor, covered myself with the blanket I had brought, and fell into a deep sleep.

I heard a young voice calling me, and suddenly I saw a light in the deep woods. "The seed" was my first thought and ran to where it was; but every time I moved forward, it seemed that the road became longer. I kept listening to that voice calling once more but it stopped after a while. Then I saw her. The source of that voice was coming from a young, beautiful, and innocent girl. She approached me and asked what I was doing in her forest. I told her I had come to search for a seed that apparently had pure energy, which I had only heard about in stories.

I thought she would laugh, but I was wrong. She only asked me to leave because that seed was not for the human race to have. I looked at her a bit confused and thought what did she meant by that? So I started analyzing the situation and considered: what was a girl like her doing in the middle of a dangerous forest? Something inside of me said I should get out of there, but I did not, I could not. Her warning made me know that the seed was real and I had to take it home to help my family.

I kept quiet, without moving. She just looked at me and sighed, "It seems you won’t leave so easily." I didn't answer, so she took my hand, and a chilling sensation filled my whole body as we started to walk. My body felt increasingly heavier, I started to get tired quickly but she kept pulling me through the forest. We walked for several minutes without a single word until we finally stopped and she began to speak: "I really believe you desperately want that seed, but only the creatures of nature can have access to it, as it is very special and powerful after all". I instinctively wanted to take my sword, but the heaviness in my body wouldn’t let me. Then I turned around to see the girl, she smiled and whispered in my ear, I slowly closed my eyes and after a short while they suddenly opened. It was all just a dream, or rather nightmare, but somehow I felt relieved.

A man walked past me, I spoke but it seemed he didn't hear me. I shouted, but he still did not react. I tried to move but it was useless, then the girl's words echoed in my mind: "Now you will be part of the forest." I could hear many voices screaming, trees asking for help to the traveler whom not knowing his fate, had entered the forest.
